Player 3 takes you inside the world of game jams – events where amateur game developers (and even a few professionals) come together to make a fully functional video game in 48 hours.

Part one – Player 3 producer Patrick Holleman reports from the Philadelphia Game Jam, an event with a rare structure. Teams come to this jam already assembled, because it’s a 48-hour competition. Prizes are awarded to the teams that make the best game based on a predetermined theme. Hilarity ensues – but also some great stories about why people love games and love to make them.

Part two – We talk to a team that loved their game-jam game so much that they launched a Kickstarter for it, and made more than $40,000. The game is called Velociraptor Cannibalism. You can find samples of the game they talk about here: velociraptorcannibalism.wordpress.com

Part three – Producer Dan Cox talks to Matthew Wegner, one of the founders of TIGJam, about the many famous indies who show up from hundreds of miles away to code with each other for a weekend.
